On sunny days I enjoy stepping into my backyard
Walking over to my fence
And peeking into your garden
I often wonder if you planned
To perfectly place these plants
I watch as you tend to your aloes and dracaenas
I’m enthralled by the love you have for your baby’s breaths and hydrangeas
The way you glow when you are near your sunflowers.
They surround you and lean into you
As if you are their mother
I know better than to pick the roses
Not for fear of the thorns
But instead, so I can continue to watch it grow.
