Author: Rico Lowe Jr.

Rico Lowe Jr. is a Panamanian-American poet and scholar. He is a former fellow of the African American Literatures and Cultures Institute (AALCI), which involved extensive academic study in San Antonio, TX and New York City, NY. Lowe is currently working on a short poetry manuscript entitled "3/5ths Human Being, 2/5ths God" which articulates contemporary and historical struggles within the black community. The title of this manuscript references the infamous Three-Fifths compromise, which specified the countable worth of each slave toward legislative representation. Lowe argues in the manuscript that if black people are only 3/5ths of a human being, the remaining value is representative of God.
